The S&R Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports talented individuals with high aspirations in the arts and sciences, announced its International Security and Global Resilience Youth Program in collaboration with Professor Shotaro Yachi and his students from the University of Tokyo, Keio University and Waseda University.
The exchange program will offer lectures and learning opportunities for students exploring careers in foreign affairs. The Japanese students will participate in the program from September 2 through 8 in Washington, D.C. Professor Yachi, Special Advisor to the Cabinet and former Japanese Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, leads the International Youth Program. Professor Yachi has an impressive foreign affairs background, having served at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs inJapan for nearly 40 years. He currently is a professor at Waseda University teaching Japanese-U.S. studies.
“These students will have very unique opportunities to experience new parts of the world and meet visionary leaders in foreign affairs. Our goal is that participants emerge from the program inspired to create a more collaborative future across the globe,” said Dr. Maki Fukami, President of the International Institute of Global Resilience (IIGR), a part of the S&R Foundation.
Students in the program will have the opportunity to meet with international relations experts including Dr. Glen S. Fukushima, Senior Fellow of the Center for American Progress, Dr. Kumi Yokoe, Senior visiting Fellow at the Heritage Foundation and Dr.Kent Calder, Director of the Edwin O. Reischauer Center for East Asian Studies, SAIS, JHU. As a part of the program, students will also have an opportunity to join a reception during U.S. Japan Research Institute week with Ambassador Sasae, as well as experience landmarks in the D.C. area including Mount Vernon and the Capitol building.
“In collaboration with the S&R Foundation and IIGR, we are able to offer our students a one-of-a-kind opportunity to learn from international leaders, equipping them with the tools necessary for a successful future career in foreign affairs,” said Professor Yachi.
