IIGR has developed an ICS guidebook in Japanese

IIGR has developed an Incident Command System (ICS) guidebook in Japanese, the first such guidebook in Japan.

The guidebook was developed in cooperation with the Japan Medical Association, the Japan Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, and the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM).

ICS is a management system whose principles can be applied to everything from a local fire to a regional flood to a national or even international disaster, and the system is used widely in US. Under ICS, each activity of the disaster response is integrated for as smooth management as possible.

“At times there was some confusion in the response to the disaster that struck eastern Japan on 3.11. We would like to help improve the emergency management system in Japan,” said Dr. Fukami, the President of IIGR.

We are happy if the principles of ICS help strengthen emergency management in Japan now and in the future.
